Leonard East, age 93 of Princeton, a dedicated family man, entrepreneur, and retired Army veteran, passed away on October 16, 2025, at the Lake Way Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Born on March 31, 1932, in Lyon County, Kentucky, Leonard was a fighter from the very beginning. Born premature during a time when such a start in life came with ominous predictions, he defied the odds and lived a life full of purpose, determination, and commitment.

With only a third-grade education, Leonard left school at an early age to support his family by working on the family farm. His work ethic and sense of responsibility became defining characteristics throughout his life. Leonard proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he pursued a variety of professional endeavors. He began his career as a truck driver for Bernie Brothers before embarking on an entrepreneurial path, successfully establishing two restaurants, a catering company, and a convenience store. Even in his later years, Leonard remained an active and valued member of his community, working as a security guard at Westlake Corporation in Calvert City well into his early eighties. He also was a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church.

Leonard's culinary talent shone through in his role as an excellent short order cook, and he was known for his love of reading and watching westerns, particularly "Gunsmoke." A lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, activities that brought him joy and relaxation.

Above all, Leonard was deeply committed to his family, taking pride in being the pillar of support for his loved ones. He carried the weight of his family’s well-being, ensuring that each member, even his grown children, felt cared for and valued. He was a steadfast presence in their lives, embodying the virtues of responsibility and commitment at every turn.

Leonard is survived by his beloved daughter, Naomi Svensson of Princeton; his brother, Franklin (Judy) East of Milwaukee, WI; his sister, Rosie Hughes of Princeton; his sister, Mary Grace Kirby; granddaughters Amber Foster (Benjamin) of Princeton and Mandy Cummins (Andrew) of Paducah; and great-grandchildren Zoie East and Thais Foster.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Bertha East; his wife of almost 60 years, Fannie Joe East; his daughter, Kathy Bergman; and brothers Edward, Richard, James, Noble, and Buddy East. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean.
