Donald Haven Sanders, age 88, of Nashville, TN, a dedicated computer engineer and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on July 5, 1937, in Iowa Falls, Mr. Sanders attended services at Park Place Assisted Living where he resided with his wife, Betty Lou Doom Sanders.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Donald pursued a distinguished career in electrical engineering with John Deere in Moline, IL, demonstrating a sharp intellect and a steadfast work ethic. His early years included serving his country when he was drafted into the Army, stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Seattle, Washington. He and Betty spent many hours on the road traveling with friends through camping trips and bus rides, always celebrating life. He found great joy in camping, traveling, and fishing. His warm and compassionate nature extended to his beloved dogs, Adolf and Maggie, with whom he shared many happy moments. One of his biggest accomplishments was recently being crowned King of the Valentines Prom at Park Place Assisted Living alongside his Queen, Betty.

Donald’s passing came just within two weeks of the death of his wife of 43 years, Betty Lou Doom Sanders, marking a poignant moment in the lives of all who knew them. Together, they shared a lifelong bond that touched many hearts.

He is survived by his daughter, Lei Loni Karp (Mark) of Mattoon, Wisconsin; his brother, Dean Sanders (Carolyn) of Illinois; and his sister, Faye Sanders Hager of Oklahoma. He also leaves behind his nieces, Pam Doom of Eddyville, Emily Brown (Rodney) of Eddyville, Patricia Sanders of PA, and Tamara Crowson Hise of OK, and nephews Jeff Doom (Deanna) of Eddyville, Joey Doom (Stephanie) of Lexington, Brock Engler of Eddyville, David Sanders of CA, Jeff Sanders of IL and Noel Crowson of OK along with several great nieces and nephews.

The family remembers with fondness his parents, Merle and Margaret Sanders, and his great nephew, Cullan Brown, who have all preceded him in death.

There will be a celebration of life service at a later date at Hebron Baptist Church in Eddyville, Kentucky and at Park Place Assisted Living in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Goodman Funeral Home is honored to serve the Sanders family.
