Mr. Dale Faughn, a distinguished teacher, military veteran, and accomplished individual, passed away on April 21, 2024, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson Kentucky. He was born on November 8, 1925, in Lamasco, KY. Mr. Faughn's legacy is one of dedication and excellence in various aspects of his life.
 
Mr. Faughn dedicated an impressive 61 years to the field of education, leaving a profound impact on countless students throughout his career. His passion for teaching was evident as he worked tirelessly to shape young minds and inspire future generations. His educational journey was marked by notable achievements including earning a master's degree in education and being recognized in both the National Teacher Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame. Mr. Faughn's commitment to academic excellence extended beyond his own classroom as he visited 28 universities and colleges to audit teachers and their curriculum, providing invaluable recommendations for improvement.
 
In addition to his illustrious teaching career, Mr. Faughn proudly served in the Marine Corps where he bravely fought in the battle of Iwo Jima and witnessed the historic raising of the flag on Mt. Suribachi. Trained as a scout sniper, Mr. Faughn exemplified courage and valor during his military service.
 
Apart from his professional endeavors, Mr. Faughn was a charter member of Unity Baptist Church of Fredonia, demonstrating his steadfast faith and devotion to his community. He was also known for his love of learning and exercise, embodying a spirit of continuous growth and vitality throughout his life.
 
Mr. Faughn's list of accomplishments is nothing short of remarkable. Notable achievements include holding the Guinness World Record for oldest regular blood donor in 2016 (and continuing to donate blood up to 2023), serving as the Kentucky Poet Laureate, appearing on prestigious game shows like the $64,000 Challenge and Jeopardy, receiving a Science award from a U.S. President, and being one of the top candidates in Kentucky for the tragic Challenger Space Shuttle mission in 1986.
 
Mr. Faughn will be dearly missed by his surviving family: Phillip Faughn (Renee) of Dixon, KY; Stephen Faughn (Pam) of Fredonia, KY; Mark Faughn (Kay) of Princeton, KY; Paul Faughn (Debbie) of Hanson, KY; Ruth McClure of Princeton, KY; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous friends and acquaintances.
 
He is predeceased by his parents Wayne & Dora Faughn, his wife of 71 years Virginia Faughn, sons Timothy Faughn and Nathan Faughn, brother Herman Faughn, sisters Ilene Faughn and Lillian Faughn, grandson Cody Brent Stewart Faughn and son-in-law Rick McClure.
 
The services honoring Mr. Faughn's distinguished life will be held at the First Baptist Church Activities Building (Old Fredonia School) in Fredonia. Visitation will take place on Friday, April 26 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM with Bro. Mark Faughn, Bro. Ken Cummins, Bro. Danny Sherrill officiating.  

 
Mr. Faughn's memory will forever remain a beacon of inspiration for all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace knowing that his contributions have left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
